Course Content

Before our training begins, you have the opportunity to book onto the BASI Coaching Course in Saas Fee or Nendaz and the Mountain Safety Exam in Zermatt. Exam fees and all other associated costs are not included in our training program.  

Week 1

Ski School Formation Week: This training week takes place with the full team and it gives you the chance to get to know our team and become a part of the Zermatt and Verbier community. The Academy instructors become a part of the ski school in every respect. You will be expected to meet all of ES’ standards of professionalism and behaviour to teach. We have high profile clientele with high expectations.  

Here is a summary of what to expect this week: - Season opening party - Resort Orientation - Teaching training - Training on ES policies, procedures, products and partners 

Week 2

5 full days: Personal performance training. This is your first chance to train as the ES Academy, looking at all areas of the mountain including on piste long and short turns, variable snow (off-piste), bumps and steeps. You will begin to formulate and work on your action plan. 

Week 3 

Teaching for ES. This is the first week of teaching that is organised for you on the course (subject to interview). It is paid employment and will count towards the necessary hours required for the Level 3. If there are no teaching hours this week you will be given the option to shadow some lessons being delivered by our full-time team.  

Week 4 

Teaching for ES. This is the second week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as week 3.  

Week 5 

Teaching for ES. This is the third week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as week 3.  

Week 6 

Teaching for ES. This is the fourth week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as week 3.  

Week 7 

5 Mornings: Second discipline training. One of the required modules for the Level 3 is to do a Level 1 in a second discipline. We usually do this in snowboarding, so this week you will be learning how to snowboard and preparing yourself for the Level 1. However, we do also offer taster sessions for those interested in Telemark or Adaptive.  

Week 8 

5 full days: Personal performance training. You will continue to work on your action plan and will be looking at all areas of the mountain, but the focus this week will be on piste performance and developmental/race drills.

Week 9 

5 full days: Personal performance training. You will continue to work on your action plan and will be looking at all areas of the mountain including on piste long and short turns, variable snow (off-piste), bumps and steeps. This will you will mostly focus on bumps and variable. If snow permits, you will spend full days off piste with a Mountain Guide.

Week 10 

5 full days: Personal performance training. You will continue to work on your action plan and will be looking at all areas of the mountain including on piste long and short turns, variable snow (off-piste), bumps and steeps. This week you will focus mainly on piste performance 

Week 11 

Teaching for ES. This is the fifth week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as week 3. 

Week 12 

Teaching for ES. This is the sixth week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as others. 

Week 13 

BASI Level 3 Technical Course, Verbier. Course attendance is subject to readiness and availability, course fees not included. 

Week 14 

Week off to free ski  

Week 15 

5 Full days: Race Training. This week you will be skiing gates as invaluable preparation for your Eurotest.  

Here is a summary of what to expect this week: - Giant Slalom race training with experienced coach - Video Analysis - Time in gates 

Week 16 

5 full days: Personal performance training. You will continue to work on your action plan and will be looking at all areas of the mountain including on piste long and short turns, variable snow (off-piste), bumps and steeps. This week you will focus primarily on the following strands: on-piste long and short turns 

Week 17 

5 full days: Personal performance training. You will continue to work on your action plan and will be looking at all areas of the mountain including on piste long and short turns, variable snow (off-piste), bumps and steeps. This week you will focus primarily on the following strands: bumps and variables. 

Week 18 

Teaching for ES. This is the seventh week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as others.  

Week 19 

Teaching for ES. This is the eighth week of teaching that is organised for you on the course and follows the same pattern as others.  

Week 20 + 21 

We have some flexibility in the program to allow for training during these weeks in the run up towards the Hintertux exams starting from the 27th of April. If we feel that our trainees are ready for the exams, we will recommend they book and rearrange training to prepare them adequately.
